Business award win for Docare founder
The founder and director of DoCare has scooped a top accolade.
Steve Mills, who set up DoCare with his wife Una ten years ago, has been named Businessperson of the Year at the annual Stroud Life Business Awards.
DoCare started life in a room in Steve and Una’s house, but now has eight teams operating from a Stroud headquarters and four locality offices. It employs over 100 staff, and covers 1,000 square miles of Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire and West Oxfordshire.
Steve said he was thrilled to have won: “While I am really delighted to have been named Businessperson of the Year, I regard this as a win for the whole team. It’s our fantastic staff who make DoCare such a successful company. We’re a family business, and the support I have from my co-director Una, our General Manager Sue Mothershaw and the team is phenomenal.”
Steve and Una are previous finalists for the Care Employer Award, in the Great British Care Awards. One of DoCare’s Area Managers, Kerry-Ann Lees, is a former holder of the National Dementia Carer of the Year award, while the company is also a former winner of two Gloucestershire Business Awards.
Steve added: “When we set up DoCare, our aim was to provide quality homecare, by training our staff to the highest standards, and making every day a better day for our clients. We wanted to listen to clients and staff, so if there were occasions when we fell short, we’d put things right and ultimately improve our service. This approach has clearly paid off.”
