Great British Care Awards – DoCare wins award.

Kerry-Ann, who works for care company DoCare, won the Dementia Carer Award at the Great South Care Awards regional finals, held in Bristol. She now goes through to the national finals next year.

“I was really surprised to be told I was a finalist, and very pleased to have won the award,” said Kerry- Ann, 35, from Nailsworth, who has been with DoCare for more than five years. “I’ve always been in care work, I love the variety and I particularly love working with elderly people.”

Kerry-Ann undertook the Dementia Link Programme run in Gloucestershire, and her specialist training helps her to work very effectively with dementia clients and with cross-training the team.

DoCare is based in Stroud and has six teams across the county, in Cheltenham, Dursley, Stroud, Gloucester and Yate, as well as Cirencester.

Managing Director Steve Mills said he was delighted at Kerry-Ann’s success, which was well-deserved. “Kerry-Ann has been key to leading our dementia initiatives and she is instrumental in the growth of the Cirencester team, driving our dementia programme for the benefit of clients, staff and strategic partners.”

The awards were a double success for the DoCare, as another carer, Andrea Baird, 41, from Chipping Sodbury, was runner up in the Home Carer Award. She’s current holder of DoCare’s own Employee of the Year Award. Steve said: “Andrea was strategic to the establishment of our South Gloucestershire team and is our current DoCare Employee of the Year in recognition of her dedication to the company, our clients and her team.”

The Great British Care Awards are a series of regional events throughout England and are a celebration of excellence across the care sector. The purpose of the awards is to pay tribute to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work. This year there are nine regional awards leading to two national finals for both the home care and care home sectors. The awards have received support from across the social care sector, including the Department of Health and the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS).

DoCare covers 650 square miles and has teams based in Cirencester, Cheltenham, Dursley, Gloucester, Stroud and Yate. Its head office is in Stroud.

Set up in 2004, this family-run business provides care and support to suit the needs of its clients, which may be half-an-hour a day or multiple visits per day. Help can be long-term or temporary and covers a range of support, from organising meals and shopping, to personal care or helping with housework. By enlisting help from DoCare, people are able to remain in their own homes instead of going into a care or nursing home. DoCare takes both private referrals and those from Social Services. Not all clients are elderly; DoCare can help all adults who need care at home
